IRINA MARGARETA NISTOR, ”THE VOICE OF MOVIES”

09 Mar 2018
Translator, interpreter, TV & radio producer, but most of all film critic and an emblematic figure of Romanian cinematography - Irina Margareta Nistor is the voice that dubbed to Romanian thousands of movies recorded on video tapes, an unmistakable voice that marked an entire generation.
Today, Ms. Irina Margareta Nistor transcends her voice. She is an active presence in the Romanian film industry; she launches and attends film festivals, she selects and reviews films for various such festivals, and she produces popular radio shows where she invites illustrative guests from the cinema industry and gauges the success of some of the best contemporary movies.

We had the honour of talking with Ms. Irina Margareta Nistor at the launching event of the “100 de chipuri” project in Regina Maria Hall at InterContinental Athénée Palace, when photographer Radu Chindris took her picture using the wet plate collodion technique. We discovered then that during the time, she encountered many occasions of visiting the hotel.

You are one of the 100 Romanians chosen in a project that celebrates commitment, dedication, and passion in their activity. What does it mean for you to be an outstanding person, a role model in your field?
”I feel honoured and just very passionate about what I do, and I would like to inspire everyone to give themselves fully in their every gesture, in order to overcome superficiality and indifference.”

Is there any memory that takes you back to Athénée Palace?
”For me it has always been a landmark, two steps away from the Athenaeum; here is where I discovered the exquisite taste of a Kievskaya chicken in adolescence in the '70s; In 1987 I spent one night at Athénée Palace after my wedding at Boteanu Church, when I filled a bathtub with flowers, because people still don’t know they need to bring bouquets only at town hall; I had a stacked cake, adorned with purple roses and a retro embroidered dress, like at the beginning of the century, connected with the Centenary; I attended gorgeous fashion parades with jazz music here, and I met, for the Vodafone Foundation, Prince Edward, the youngest son of the Queen of England, with all the protocol required! Hence, memories that spread over half a century!”
THE QUADRILINGUAL PARFAIT
During the visit to the hotel on the occasion of the “100 de chipuri” photographic project, Ms. Irina Margareta Nistor confessed that she loves ice, coffee and piquant ingredients. Therefore, in homage to the contribution of Ms. Nistor in making other cultures accessible to Romanians, the pastry chefs of Athénée Palace crafted a special dessert, an iced parfait with dark chocolate and cayenne pepper mouse, coffee jelly and wasabi bonbons!

We invite you to taste this dessert in Café Athénée during March 26-31, 2018.
